As someone who works in local SEO for medical aesthetics clinics, I’ve seen first-hand how implementing structured data (also known as schema markup) can quickly improve visibility and traffic.
The surprising part is that most clinic websites I audit don’t have any schema at all. This is even the case when the websites have been looked after by SEO agencies.
Missing schema markup means clinics miss out on one of the easiest SEO wins available.
What Is Schema Markup?
Schema markup is a type of code you can add to your website to help search engines (and AI tools) to better understand your content.
Watch my YouTube short for quick explanation
In practical terms structured data can:
- Turn your standard Google listing into a rich result (with extra details like ratings, reviews, FAQs, or business info).
- Improve your chances of appearing in AI-generated answers (like Google’s AI Overviews or ChatGPT search responses).
- Reinforce your clinic’s credibility and expertise online.
In industries like aesthetics, where reputation matters as much as results, this is a huge advantage.
Where to Start With Schema for Aesthetic Clinics
If you’re starting from scratch, here’s my recommended order:
- Local Business schema on your homepage This helps Google understand exactly where you are, what you offer, and how to contact you.
- Service schema on key treatment pages For example on your Botox/ anti-wrinkle page, Profhilo or lip filler page.
- Article schema on blog posts This makes it easier for Google to display your blog posts in rich formats.
- Person schema for you (the injector/owner) This is especially important if you’re the face of your brand and want to highlight your qualifications and experience.
How to Add Schema to Your Website
- On WordPress – Use SEO plugins like Rank Math, Yoast or Schema Pro. Alternatively add it manually via a custom HTML block with JSON-LD markup.
- On other site builders – You may need to add schema as a custom code block to each page.
- Always verify your schema – Use Google’s Rich Results Test or validate it on Schema.org to check for errors and ensure it’s working.
Real-World Impact: Schema That Doubled Blog Traffic
I’ve implemented schema on multiple clinic websites, and the results can be dramatic. In some cases, blog traffic doubled just from adding structured data.
No new content, no extra backlinks, just making the existing content easier for search engines to interpret.
When your pages become eligible for rich results, click-through rates often jump because your listing stands out from competitors.
Why Schema Matters More in the AI Era
With Google AI Overviews rolling out, the launch of AI Mode, and the rise of tools like ChatGPT and Perplexity, schema is no longer just about pretty search snippets.
It’s about machine readability. It gives search engines and AI models the data they need to:
- Understand who you are
- Recognise what you offer
- Trust your authority
If these systems can’t clearly identify you, your content is far less likely to appear in AI-generated summaries or natural-language answers.

Medspa’s Should Stop Treating Schema as Optional
In a world where traditional organic clicks are harder to win, schema is one of the most effective ways to future-proof your clinic’s visibility.
It’s not just an SEO “extra”. Schema is a foundational trust signal for both search engines and AI.
At BoutiqueSEO all our aesthetics websites are built with Schema implemented and we add this markup to all our SEO clients websites as standard.
The sooner you add Schema mark-up to your clinics website, the sooner you’ll see the benefits.
